History

Supermotor,
Blue Man,
Ombudfilm
ToMagnet was inspired by the titles of the short film “Supermotor”, realized by the artist Blue Man. Filmed using simple magnetic letters —like those typically found on a kitchen refrigerator— and a bit of gelatin, the multicolored words appear in jerky movements against a bright yellow background. The richness of the forms stems from the fact that the letters actually come from various alphabets, creating a strong contrast between the proportions and design characteristics of each letter. In addition, some lowercase letters, such as the “s,” appear to be upside down. Finally, the variation in x-height among the lowercase letters, combined with pronounced rounded edges, gives the typeface a strong visual identity. After a meticulous process of optical adjustement, ToMagnet brings together all the distinctive features observed in the reference sample while maintaining graphic consistency. With a unique Extra-Black cut, this typeface is primarily intended for display and branding contexts, although it has also proven effective at small sizes. Designed between 2021 and 2023, it was first released in 2023.

Usages
Hysteresis refers to how the magnetic flux in the metal lags behind the external magnetizing force. [ Wikipedia ] The reason for this is, that a given magnetizing force will set up in iron a vastly greater number of lines of magnetic force than in air or in any other non-magnetic material.American School of Correspondence, Cyclopedia of Telephony and Telegraphy Vol. 1 — A General [ Project Gutenberg ] He demonstrated that a wire carrying a current could deflect a magnetized compass needle. [ Wikipedia ] Now this constant turmoil in the ether which creates the magnetic area explains why the magnetized needle of a compass unfailingly points north and south.Bassett, [ Project Gutenberg ] In magnetized iron, the electronic spins of the domains are aligned and the magnetic effects are reinforced.
