Boston Numerals
ToAlter draws inspiration from an uncredited sample titled “Boston Numerals”. Based on a classic, high-contrast serif typeface structure, the font has been constructed with an emphasis on the distinctive oddities visible in the source material. The specimen is special because of its static lowercase “o,” which stands out thanks to the pronounced axis of the lowercase letters “b,” “p,” “d,” and “q.” The high x-height gives the typeface a modern look and allows it to fit seamlessly into compact layouts. Unlike the original specimen, the serif tips are square rather than rounded, to emphasize the sharpness of the strokes. In its single Regular cut, ToAlter fits in a variety of design contexts, offering a style that is both versatile and distinctive. Designed between 2019 and 2023, it was first released in 2022.
